How to prepare your hair before braids

A well-prepared appointment is quicker, more comfortable and the style lasts better. Here is how to arrive ready for your braiding appointment.

Natural hair before a braiding appointment

One or two days before

Wash your hair thoroughly, condition it and detangle it completely. Come with dry hair and no heavy oils, gel or hairspray: it is much easier to part and braid.

Still wearing old braids? Have them taken out first, or mention it in your request. At Komo Beauty, braid removal can also be booked as a service.

In your request

The more precise your request, the easier the appointment is to plan:

  • The style you want, for example box braids, knotless, Fulani or twists.
  • Length, thickness and colour of the braids.
  • One or two inspiration photos.
  • Whether you will bring the extension hair or it should be provided — check this directly with Cathy.

On the day

Allow plenty of time: braiding is handwork and takes several hours depending on the style and length. Comfortable clothes, something to drink and headphones make it more pleasant. Speak up if a braid feels too tight — your scalp should not hurt.

In
short.

Should I straighten my hair before braids?

Not necessarily. Washed, well-detangled and dry hair is usually enough. Ask in your request what works best for your hair type and style.

How long does it take to install box braids?

That depends a lot on the length, thickness and number of braids. You will get the exact time, together with the price, when you send your request.

Can I get braids done at home?

Yes, Komo Beauty comes to your home by appointment in Ebikon, Lucerne and nearby.
